Step 1

Study the infographic. It has more than just idioms this week. Enjoy! Happy Thanksgiving to all!

An infographic with images of turkey and pumpkin pie.

Step 2

Now take a moment to listen to a dialogue. Can you guess what the idioms mean?

Step 3

Now, look at the script of the dialog. Listen to the dialog again. This is one of the best ways to build your listening skills.

Soubadeh:Hey! The long weekend is coming up! Do you have any plans?
Blaine:Yes, I’m going to have dinner with my family at my sister’s house.
Soubadeh:What a real blessing it is to be able to get together with your family and have a nice meal!
Blaine:Sure, the only problem is that I am always so stuffed afterwards. Then there’s my brother-in-law … he’s always such a stuffed shirt!
Soubadeh:You know, we really need to talk turkey here! I think you need to count your blessings, and be thankful that you live so close to your family that you can enjoy Thanksgiving with them.
Blaine:I know, you are so right. One thing for sure, though, is that I am going to go cold turkey on the desert this year!
