Step 2

Listen to the dialogue for better understanding and pronunciation.

Step 3

Read the following dialogue to see the idioms in context:

Alex:Hi Jay!
Jay:Hi Alex! How is your new job?
Alex:Great! Good!…I mean OK… Oh, why sugar coat it? Not great! The boss thinks that he’s a smart cookie and asks everyone to come up with new sales ideas constantly! First, I thought this is a piece of cake, but now it just puts an unnecessary pressure on me and then, I have to spend so much time listening to all these half-baked ideas people come up with. It’s exhausting!
Jay:But isn’t it what you’ve always wanted? A job where your ideas would be heard?
Alex:Yes, yes, but listening to the others is torture!
Jay:Haha! Well, you can’t have your cake and eat it too! I think you’re lucky to have a job like that!
Alex:I guess…
Jay:Well, good luck! Nice chatting with you! Bye Alex!
Alex:Bye Jay!
