Step 2

Read the dialogue to understand the correct usage of the idioms.

AnnaWhy did you come home so late last night? I was worried.
DinaI wanted to tell you but you were already asleep. Actually, the  party ended quite late.
AnnaDid you go to Maria’s house warming ?
DinaYes. She bought a beautiful house near the lake. She arranged a dinner in her garden.
I have to admit she has a green thumb. The garden was full of seasonal flowers and shrubs.
AnnaShe told me about it. But I think it’s a white elephant for her. The maintenance of such a
huge house will cost a lot.
DinaI wonder how she will manage her finances. She works part-time and her husband has a blue-collar job.
AnnaShe told me that she is in the red after buying the house. She is  looking for a full-time job now.
DinaWhy didn’t you go to the party yesterday? Everyone was asking about you.
AnnaI was not in a mood to attend any party. My manager gave me a pink slip and now I have to start
 looking for a new job.
DinaOh, I am sorry but did he tell you the reason?
AnnaLast week, I had an argument with him. He took it personally and  fired me.
DinaI have heard that he did exactly the same with another lady who was working in that office last year.
AnnaHe is the black sheep in the organization. My supervisor was telling me that the board members are not happy with him. He might get a pink slip too.
DinaDon’t worry. You will find a better job soon.
