Step 2

Listen to the dialogue between Syd and Len.

Step 3

Syd:Hey Len, how is your son doing ? My daughter told me he was under the weather.
Len:He is doing better now. We all need to recharge our batteries from time to time.  By the way, did you hear about Mrs. Ali, the grade 2 teacher?
Syd:No, I didn’t. What happened?
Len:She received news that she has cancer.
Syd:Really? I am part of the Parent Council. I am surprised that this wasn’t discussed at the last meeting.
Len:It’s a recent diagnosis, I believe. Mrs. Ali is my youngest daughter’s teacher. She is very sweet, caring, and kind soul. Private person, though. I heard from Joanne that she was getting ready to retire…
Syd:Well, I do hope she gets a clean bill of health.  Funny, she ran a half-marathon last year and donated all the proceeds to the Parent Council. Obviously, she is not in bad shape for her age.
Len:For some people, news like this gives them a new lease on life. Though, mind you, Mrs. Ali already has such a positive attitude. I hope she is back in the classroom soon.
