According to Wikipedia, an electronic  portfolio (also known as an eportfolio, e-portfolio, digital portfolio, or online portfolio) is a collection of electronic evidence assembled and managed by a user, usually on the web. The individual samples in a portfolio are often called artifacts.

An e-portfolio can be called an extended resume which showcases vision, philosophy, achievements,  experience, work samples and life-long career journey of an individual. It is what sets them apart from others in their industry.

Why is it important to have an e-portfolio? It provides additional opportunity for a person to convince a perspective employer about their personal achievements and goals. Many employers admit it is beneficial for candidates to show their portfolio as it ensures they have the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in a given company or organization. It also helps to reinforce qualities unique to the applicant.
