Here are three simple ways the internet can help you:
See if something is good before you buy it
Don’t waste time or money! Know what others say before you buy. Here are helpful sites:
- Read reviews– People write about their experiences. Use websites like Amazon, Yelp, and TripAdvisor. Look at both good and bad thoughts to get a fair view.
- Check expert ideas – Experts test things and then give advice. For example, if you’re buying a new phone, read CNET and Digital Trends.com for advice.
- Compare prices – Compare prices from different sellers online. This can help you find the best price for your budget. Websites like Shopbot Canada and Google Shopping.ca make this easy.
- Ask on social media: Join consumer groups like Save Money in Winnipeg on Facebook, or ask the public for advice.
Use it to check if Information is real
There are people who are out to there to trick others. Protect yourself by checking online first:
- Fact-check – If it seems too good to be true or just doesn’t feel right, check it. Websites like Snopes and FactCheck.org can help you tell fact from fiction.
- Ask online – You can use Google or Glassdoor.ca to research on a company. You can also ask on Quora or Reddit. If you have doubts about a job ad, for example, ask on LinkedIn, Facebook or Twitter.
- See online reviews and ratings – Check the reputation of businesses. See if they have a real address and phone number. Read customer reviews to see if they can be trusted.
Learn how to do something or gain a skill
YouTube has saved me so much time and effort. Whether it’s how to change a tire, or cook lasagna, you’ll find step-by-step videos to guide you. Aside from YouTube, you can also check out:
- Online Courses – You can learn anything from coding to living your best life. Go to websites like Coursera, Udemy, and Khan Academy.
- Educational articles and forums – Many experts share their knowledge through articles and online forums. These are great resources for learning. You also get advice from experts.
